12 Week Intensive- Architecture Workshop
From Concept to Construction
A transformative journey through design thinking, historical wisdom, and hands-on building
Course Philosophy: This isn't typical high school enrichment. Over 12 intensive weeks, students experience architecture as both ancient craft and cutting-edge profession. They'll master the same software used in world-class firms while building full-scale mockups with their hands—understanding that great design emerges from the marriage of digital precision and material intelligence.
-
This foundational month transforms how students perceive the built environment around them. Starting with the immediate Lancaster County context, students develop architectural "literacy"—the ability to read buildings as cultural documents that reveal values, technologies, and ways of life. The block bridges intuitive response to buildings with systematic analysis, establishing the conceptual foundation for everything that follows.
-
Having established architectural foundation, students now immerse in the digital tools that define contemporary practice. This block positions technology not as replacement for human creativity, but as amplification of design thinking. Students master industry-standard software while maintaining connection to physical making, understanding how digital and analog processes inform each other in professional practice.
-
The culminating block integrates all previous learning through intensive making experience. Students engage the fundamental challenge of architecture—translating design intent into physical reality. Through full-scale construction, they encounter the gap between drawing and building, learning that great architecture emerges from conscious engagement with material limitations and construction logic.
